Student Voice and Leadership
Everyday at St Michael’s we encourage all in our school community to embody our School Motto, “Let Your Light Shine”. Our student-led groups and initiatives embrace this theme of ‘light’. We are empowering our students to reflect the light of Christ in the world today, by supporting them to let their own lights shine daily, through their words and actions and to assist others to let their lights shine. Together we are shining brighter and lighting the way.
Our C2S (Called to Shine) Committee is a team of volunteer students in K-6, who work for ecological justice in our world and gives an authentic student voice to addressing social and environmental issues in our school and world. The C2S Committee leads charitable works and environmental initiatives at St Michael’s.
We are a Level 3 accredited Catholic Earthcare School. Our Environmental Legends are a team of volunteer students in Years 3-6 who work with the Little Doves, a team of volunteer students in K-2 to lead environmental and sustainability initiatives within our school. We promote a more sustainable way of living through waste management initiatives and our vegetable gardens and fruit trees. We are also focused on reducing our energy consumption and plastic waste and look forward to more initiatives in the future.
Our Legends of the Light Shine Program is a school-developed program, designed to empower our students to reflect the light of Christ in the world today. The Legends of the Light Shine Program is led by Stage 3 students, who work collaboratively to develop engaging activities to explicitly teach the focus positive character attribute to younger students. The Legends of the Light Program contributes to the development of the leadership capacity of the Stage 3 students and brings authentic student voice to the school environment.
Sporting Opportunities
Sport is important at St. Michael’s, and we value the principles it fosters. Our school benefits from the support of Sporting Schools grants, which enable us to bring in expert coaches and provide students with opportunities to experience a diverse range of sports in a fun and engaging way. These grants help facilitate skill development and promote teamwork, while also making physical activity accessible to all students. The inclusive environment we create encourages individuals to challenge themselves and enjoy the numerous benefits of being active, contributing to their overall personal growth and well-being.
At St. Michael’s, we also promote the participation of students to attend a variety of sporting trials, competitions, and gala days within the Armidale Catholic Schools sporting pathway programs. These opportunities encompass both individual and team sports, allowing students to develop their skills and potentially progress to the Polding representative teams within the NSWCPS (New South Wales Catholic Primary Schools). We have had students experience great success at these events, and their achievements are always celebrated within our school and the wider community.
Cultural Opportunities
The Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music (“TRCM”) facilitates teachers to provide individual and shared music tuition on school grounds, weekly, during school hours.
Students, via private contract, can access tuition in instruments including Violin, Ukulele, Piano, Drums, Guitar and Vocal, just to name a few. This popular service saves parents/carers travelling to Tamworth for private tuition in Music.
